Well helloo!

Welcome to the John Parkes blog with added 'stuff' -

It's not entertainment -

and it's not art!

It's music (and talk) - which is much better.

The idea is to use this rather than one of those websites where you have to get someone in to fix it and it turns out they've moved on and the world has moved on and...

Not that pretty but has what it needs to I think...

A FINE WHINE! The blog was originally intended to be mainly music related – But there’s a limit to how much people will want to know about what it was like being on the motorway on the way to a gig... And it turns out I was more interested in whines and moans from everyday life – So you’re more likely to find a complaint about the local bus company and ridiculous bureaucracy than a cheery wave from backstage somewhere...

About Me

John Parkes is an acoustic songwriter / singer
based in Leeds, England.

Previously played in various indie guitar bands including night time Radio One favourites The Chorus, the Sinister Cleaners, Greenhouse and Fuzzbird. He now fronts Leeds based Whole Sky Monitor (a noisy indie guitar band championed by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio One amongst others).

Legendary DJ John Peel played something from every record John made over a period of 14 years and introduced various other DJs to his songs.

John went acoustic at some point in the mid ‘noughties’ – not such a great change since many of his around 200+ songs have been written on acoustic guitar.

The songs are, so much as the label means anything, ‘singer / songwriter’ type songs – not indie rock without a band. Some have said 'modern urban folk'.

Lyrical obsessions include love, longing, lust, religion, bits of politics, self examination, the meaning of life, TV, general angst and touches of black humour.
